Mosely & Me

This morning I attended a breakfast at The Townsend for the Michigan Humane Society's Mega March for Animals 2008 kickoff. This annual fundraiser, held this year on Sunday, October 8, brings together families, friends and, of course, animals for a walk around Detroit to raise money for a good cause.

MHS showed videos depicting animal cruelty and homelessness (talk about heartbreak)...and did you know one female cat and her subsequent litter of female cats will give birth to more than 300,000 cats in 7 years (MHS calls it the Cat Crisis). That makes for a lot of homeless kitties out there.

But I am not here to preach about saving animals (I will, however, shamelessly promote the fact that I am a Team Leader for the event, and I invite you all to join my team – you can just donate but the walk will be a blast! Email me if you're interested (lmaniaci@SignatureMichigan.com). It takes $120 to rehab an animal at MHS before he/she is ready for adoption. Give a quarter, a dollar...heck, form your own team. If you are an animal lover, this really is a worthwhile effort. And any little bit helps.

Now for the really important part of this blog. Her name is Mosely. We adopted her one year ago from Birmingham Trick Dog (which now is Canine Inn, I believe, and has new owners). She was found at Detroit Animal Control, not in the best condition. Mosely (don't ask: my husband named her after his favorite boxer but she is definitely a girl!) has been the greatest blessing to our lives and she makes us just as happy as we make her. The reward of giving an animal in need a forever home (no matter how much she sheds all over my house, leaving huge tumbleweeds of fur for her mom to vacuum every day), is awesome.

I wanted you to meet Mosely (I get so many Pix of the Litter submissions from so many fellow animal lovers, I wanted my chance to brag!) We'll will be at the walk October 5. Hope to see you there!
